The fact that stakeholders of the PDP recently endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan to contest as flag bearer of the party in the 2015 election is further testimony to the undemocratic stance of the party, Kano State governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has said.
He said this while receiving reports from committees sent out to the 36 states of the federation for consultation on calls for him to contest the presidency come 2015, at Africa House, Kano Government House, on Saturday.
“Since the five governors decamped from PDP to APC, I told Nigerians that PDP would become a weaker party whose democratic value would erode. Now the stakeholders of the party have come out to say that they have chosen President Jonathan as their party’s sole presidential candidate without going for primary election”, Governor Kwankwaso noted.
He said the PDP leaders, without consultation with appropriate party supporters, took the decision, noting that this development would not allow the party delegates to choose the best candidate for the party, which portends victory for the prospective APC candidate.
“I am assuring you that APC leaders are committed to doing justice in all of the forthcoming party primaries be it at state and National Assemblies, governorship and even the presidential election”, Kwankwaso said, adding that the party will give everybody, especially delegates the chance to choose the best candidates.
The governor recalled that when he and some of his colleagues were in the PDP, there was no time when a candidate was forced on them without holding primary election, adding that even those who were offended by the then sitting president were also consulted for reconciliation as part of the democratic process of building the party.
Governor Kwankwaso pointed out that the present leaders of PDP have shown that they are not democrats and the party would definitely lose the 2015 general election because of their sheer incompetence and undemocratic attitude to governance.
He alleged that there was never a time that money politics is being played in Nigerian democracy more than now, accusing the Jonathan administration of using US dollars to influence party leaders. He, however, averred that money will not give electorate victory to the PDP.
According to him, money politicians are never and would ever be mindful of people’s suffering, assuring that he, as a governor, would continue to expose such people so that the electorate will identify and avoid them during elections.
On the consultation reports, Kwankwaso said that he would study them and very soon, he would make whatever decision decision on whether to contest for the presidential ticket or not known to Nigerians. He thanked the committees for their efforts and commitment, hoping they would remain Kwankwasiyya loyalists work hard for APC victory at all levels.
