Assistant police superintendent shoots his wife and commits suicide after she got drunk.
OFFICERS of the Ogun State Police Command are investigating the bizarre case of a retired assistant superintendent of police who shot his wife to death then committed suicide after an argument started by her getting drunk. In a tragic development, former Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sunday Isokpehi, 60, shot his wife Gladys, 40 with a double barrelled rifle then turned it on himself. Apparently, he shot his wife to death after returning to their home in the Otta area of the state after accusing her of being drunk. Muyiwa Adejobi, a spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, said they would investigate whether or not the late police officer acquired the double-barrelled gun he used legally. He added that there were no further casualties involved in the case and reports indicating that the retired policeman killed his son too were untrue. Mr Adejobi said: “We are still investigating the immediate and remote causes of the tragic incident. We will find out whether the man was depressed or was under any influence, because a normal human being will not open fire on his wife and then kill himself. “We will also investigate how he got the double-barrelled gun he used to commit the dastardly act. Mr Isokpehi retired in March from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit with the Lagos State Police Command, and was living in Eledi area in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area." Meantime, the Ogun State Police Commissioner Ikemefuna Okoye, said that no fewer than 220 armed robbers were arrested in the state over the last nine months. He added that 37 others were killed during shootouts with police while 48 guns, which include 10 AK-47 rifles and 1,600 rounds of ammunition were recovered.
